Excess heat
produced in the coke oven process will be utilized to generate steam using Heat recovery
steam generators ( HRSG) . The steam produced from HRSG will be used to drive
Turbo-generators to produce electricity. The power generated will be supplied to West
Bengal State electricity Board. The power plant is proposed to be put up by Tata Power
Co.(TPL).
This new generation technology based on a proven
heat recovery process meets today's stringent international environmental requirements
hence delivers improved environmental performance. Emission levels are significantly lower
than those resulting from older, by-product coke oven type technology. The process does
not rely on the combu stion of coal. The coal is heated and volatile matter in the coal
(gas) is driven off. The gas is combusted in an environmentally smart way and heat is used
to produce both the coke and electricity. The greenhouse gas environmental performance of
the process is significantly better than a coal fired plant and typical of that of a
simple gas fired power station.
